It is difficult to provide all information related to traffic conditions from one trip's departure to arrival. So integrating and reusing all of these systems becomes the research hotspot. This paper proposes an architecture which makes use of a great diversity of current system and other related systems by the concept of service oriented architecture. This approach is not only helpful to construct a uniform platform to provide all kinds of route guidance service for different devises and demands, but also helpful to keep the framework of the existing system.

So far, the direction of approaching vehicles has been detected with multiple microphones onboard the vehicle. However, the detection time may be affected by the sound from the measuring vehicle of its own. We propose a new detection scheme in which the effect of the sound from radiator fan is to be reduced by means of the spectrum subtraction method with multiple microphones. In this paper, an experimental system developed based on the proposed scheme is described and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified through field trials.

The reliability on transportation network can reflect the variability and show the ability to dealing with uncertainty. To control and predict the travel time reliability before a trip, the transportation state should be simulated. Therefore, a stochastic road network model according to the randomness analysis of traffic demand and supply is proposed in this paper, where the variability of travel time is assumed Beta distribution and the algorithm of Frank-Wolfe combined with Method of Successive Average is presented. Meanwhile, the many reliability trials are performed to adapt future environments and a guide for increasing reliability can be obtained after analysis the effect of the variability on traffic state.

The orientation units recording the vehicles’ position, time, speed, and other status information which be transmitted to data center. Then these large sample dada can be processed to get the link travel time or travel speed with a given calculating time interval. On the other hand, traffic operating status and trend can be analyzed through the day by day history data. This paper summarized the existing studies on probe penetration first. On the basis of that, the influencing factors on probe vehicle penetration were analyzed considering the global successful experiences and Beijing FCD practices. Using the actual FCD system data we put forward a necessary or optimization penetration scale of Beijing on a given condition. It can also provide basis for FCD system construction and travel time estimation.

Although a great deal of investment in transport infrastructure has been conducted by the government, no obvious alleviation on traffic congestion has been seen. So researchers seek to traffic information to improve traffic management and extend the capacity of transportation system. As more and more vehicles equipped with GPS, real time traffic data can be achieved by floating car. We can estimate link travel speed through it, but how precise of the estimation we do not know. For the difficulty of acquiring real travel speed data to validate the accuracy, this paper acquire link travel time through vehicle license plate recognition. By sampling method, some conclusions can be achieved such as the running difference between taxi and common cars, the accuracy in different volume and different sample number condition.

The Traditional methodology of CR is “0 or 1” estimation. It is an extreme method essentially. With the developing of city traditional methodology is applied difficultly. And it is expected that CR index can be used to estimate the connection or travel cost of substituted route when the congestion blocks the segment and traveler should select the new route. It is thought that the route is still connective if traveler can find a substituted route which the travel cost is not enhanced more than the expectation. The travel cost of substituted route will decide the CR value and connectivity of OD which the old connect route is broken. And it hypothesizes that the road network reliability follows the principle of network theory. A new assessment methodology of connect reliability based on the substitute route was provided. Moreover, the calculating steps were described detailed.

Each vehicle broadcasts their GPS (Global Position System) position coordinates at regular intervals, and relays packets broadcast by neighbors using flooding. The vehicles also broadcast and relay urgent event-driven information. We implemented Layer-2 forwarding for urgent packets in the wireless LAN driver to reduce packet forwarding delay. In this method, we realize priority identification using subtype values in the MAC header. We obtained experiment results showing that the average packet delay of urgent packet is 1 millisecond less than that of normal packets. We also implemented and demonstrated an information sharing application named UbiView 2006.

Each data can be used to indicate the exact point of traffic condition in a big city. Because the design hardware of reader is not suitable for the purpose of collecting traffic information, one can not adjust its resolution as you like. Thus, the analysis of turning point on the major errors of distance and timing errors is very important to let the system designer to take correct strategies to compensate for all of possible errors. One can conclude the following rule: 1) when speed is fast, timing error becomes dominant; 2) when speed is low, distance error becomes dominant. The result is very valuable for the local government to make a decision on the adjustment

Unlike current methods, the short-term traffic flow forecasting model presented in this paper based on small quantity training samples and nonlinear theory, which is suitable for complex transportation systems. Considering the chaotic character of traffic flow series, this paper combines the chaos theory and Support Vector Machine (SVM) theory together, chaos-SVM forecasting model is presented, at the same time, the model solves the structure determination problem very well. The experiment result is accurate and reliable.

It has many applications recent years, for example, car park entrance and exit management, high way surveillance, and electric toll collection. Among the three steps of LPR - license plate extraction(LPE), character segmentation and character recognition, LPE is the most important since only the plate can be extracted correctly the following steps can perform well. Generally, many plate candidates, which include fake candidates would be extracted in LPE process. These candidates would be verified to improve the performance of LPR in speed and accuracy. In this paper, a novel candidate verification technique which is mainly based on texture and geometric properties is proposed. In the new method, autocorrelation curve, geometric and projection properties are combined to verify the candidates. Experimental results on headlights show the superiority of proposed method.

In the simulation process, each vehicle is moved and tracked individually. Four different vehicle types are explicitly considered in DynaTAIWAN, including car, bus, motorcycle, and truck. Vehicles are moving along the link through macroscopic flow relationships, speeds of each type of vehicle are adjusted. Numerical experiments are conducted in a 50-node test network and a Taichung City Network.
