The defi...Lead moreA rule-based plan engine has been developed for Hong Kong Route 8 Traffic Control and Surveillance System. This engine applies Extensible Markup Language (XML) technologies to define a rule hierarchy for the traffic management of expressways, tunnels and bridges. The defined rules cover different types of field response subsystems such as Full Variable Message Signs (FVMS), Lane Control Signals (LCS), Variable Speed Limit Signs, Prismatic Variable Message Signs, Turn on Radio Signs and radio messages. This engine can handle sophisticate traffic operations (i.e., tunnel contra-flow, event combination), complicate roadway geometry and safety checking of system operations. With the realization of this engine, the preparation of traffic response plans can be more effective and efficient.

The DSS applies the most advanced simulation technologies to create a scenario generation and evaluation environment which could assist Beijing Traffic Management Bureau in traffic management in respond to traffic congestion, incidents, road works, Olympic Games, etc.. With the realization of DSS, a more effective traffic response for a given traffic event can be proposed, evaluated, and stored in a knowledge database. Another delivery, Traffic Plan Builder, can convert the traffic response in the DSS knowledge database into a traffic plan for the on-line retrieval requested by the Beijing Traffic Management Integration System.

According to the plan, motorway network with length of 85,000km will be constructed in China before 2020, of the total length, 29,000km have been built, 16,000km is under construction, and 40,000km yet to be built. The total forecasted investment for NENP is 2 trillion Yuan (some 240 billion US dollars). In this research, we evaluated th...Lead moreIn our previous research, it was tested that what kind of music has positive effect for preventing drivers’ drowsiness, and it was suggested that “high-preference and fast-tempo” music had most positive effect for leading awakening state. In this research, we evaluated that differences of the musical effects depend on the quantity of the stimuli for alertness of drivers’ physical state using pulse wave and driving performances. The results were that depend on the quantity of the stimuli, subjects’ state and driving operation were changed. Especially, with or without music, the time until falling asleep were expanded at least 10 minutes in our experiment.

However, there ...Lead moreMinistry of Construction&Transportation(MOCT) has enacted and propagated ITS technical regulation for securing nation-wide interoperability and compatibility among ITS service units which is defined by ASN.1 syntax as recommended by international standard. However, there are difficulties to realize standards defining by ASN.1 because additional technical development like as converter to change ASN.1 syntax into a formal development language, encoding/decoding functions to change abstract syntax into transfer syntax are needed. Therefore the MOCT has developed and provided a general-purpose ASN.1 toolkit at a national level as auxiliary tools for applying ITS technical regulation to ITS. The ASN.1 toolkit consists of the compiler to make ASN.1 specification into C language data structures, libraries to provide ASN.1 encoding and decoding functions by basic encoding rules(BER) and graphic user interface(GUI) to editing ASN.1 syntax.

Especially, most of the tollgates are different shape, traffic volume, and traffic flow. The objective of this paper is to find a location of ETCS lane that the tollgates are efficiently operated. For this study, the Seoul tollgate are selected as case study site, and surveyed the tollplaza shape, traffic volume, payment method and so on. To analysis the effectiveness of the Seoul tollgates as the location of ETCS lane is developed the tollgates simulation model and used it. As a result of simulation, the location of ETCS lane to minimize the average travel time at tollgates is analyzed the left side lane.

The detection system is installed giving more weight on estimation of necessary travel time, which makes possible to suggest a detection system appropriate to national highway traffic information service strategy through grouping national highway ITS sections by road and traffic characteristics to offer each group an appropriate location of detection system for maximizing the reliability of decision on the traffic performance.

On the other hand, these techniques cause high cost and power consumption problems in the terminal due to hi...Lead moreIn the Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (T-DMB), H.264 and Bit Sliced Audio Coding (BSAC) for video and audio compression provide high compression rate. On the other hand, these techniques cause high cost and power consumption problems in the terminal due to high decoder complexity. To solve these problems, this paper proposes DMB over Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system where users can access DMB contents on Windows Media Players connected to WLAN. The system receives the DMB signal transmitted by broadcasting stations, decodes the H.264 and BSAC coded information, performs transcoding to Windows Media Player format, and then transmits the data by multicasting using the conventional WLAN.

Also, it improves the experiential or theoretical methods to decide the size and position of toll collection facilities considered before the toll road design in the practical aspect related with the design and operation of a toll plaza and suggests the estimated design for practical conditions by the simulation. The new model obtains the excellent performance over 99% on arrival rate according to the field test and the results by the previous models and the vehicle movement by animation imitates the true vehicle movement and queuing generation similarly. And furthermore, the new model improves the mean absolute deviation up to almost 100%.

For that reason, we investigated about tubular markers, which is a typical facility for safety in Hi-pass...Lead moreAlthough Hi-pass have been operated for alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing mobility in expressways since 2000, there is not any standard for safe operation. For that reason, we investigated about tubular markers, which is a typical facility for safety in Hi-pass. Tubular Markers are installed for separating same or opposite traffic flows spatially, supporting the marks at a place which has not only high possibility of accidents but distinguished carefulness of drivers. In this paper, it is noted two considering; one is prevention of accident from the speed gap of autos and Hi-pass vehicles; the other is guarantee of necessary length that Hi-pass vehicles could be changes the lanes for off-ramp. Focusing those considerations, it is proposed not only proper length of tubular markers at interchange and main tollgates, but also fundamental basic subjects. This paper explains the application of appropriate ITS technologies to various operational elements of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems that will facilitate to increase the effectiveness of BRT vehicle with increasing bus speed and reliability concerns associated with BRT operations. It has suggested the different ITS strategy suitable for different BRT elements providing system wide benefit. The marginal benefit depends on the integration of certain type of ITS technology with certain BRT element at certain stage. Finally, some proposal for deploying innovative ITS controlled BRT were proposed.

Recently, uses of on board cameras to prevent accidents have gathered attention all over the world. We have designed multiple algorithms to assist the driver in maintaining safety while operation the vehicle. - Four cameras are mounted in every direction to generate an overhead view of the vehicle, using virtual view point and image processing technology. - Image processing technology is used to realize seamless connection between images from adjacent cameras. This is done by using alpha blending algorithm and brightness chromaticity compensation algorithm. - Graphic drawing processing is used to provide caution to a driver in a timely manner. There are more advantages for using hardware algorithm than DSP. It not only prevents image delay, but also minimizes the system cost. We will announce the technology used to realize the LSI in the test result.

But the road status report is expressed by natural language, which could cause manual errors. So it is necessary to evaluate its quality before using it as the data source for traffic information service system. This paper proposes an approach to evaluate the quality of the road status report, and the result of the experiment based on this approach becomes the basis of improving the quality of the road status report.

Of Researchers. Then robot is configured to make a real imaging and sense for existence of a human body in roads, our group developed some new types of humanoid robot that can be used for accident alarm and for road supervision. The robot is programmed to decrease road accidents. In this paper the robot description and robot parts are introduced and at the end experimental results of robot application in a highway are presented.

On detecting the flow of current cycle and the cycle before, estimating the flow of next circle is proceeded. Setting least delay as performance index, we get each phase time for the next cycle. A simulation experiment for the traffic model at a four-phase intersection is also performed. The result shows that the method is efficient.

The application alerts to drivers, helping them become aware of the presence of other vehicles. To create the application, Inter-vehicle communications contribute to transmit and receive a packet which includes location, speed and so on. Furthermore, a relay control protocol provides indirect communications by relaying packets. In this paper, we propose an application oriented relay control function for the Inter-vehicle communications. The proposed function can reduce the amount of communication traffic by using distance information which is abstracted from requirements of the application. Furthermore, the proposed function can be used as an additional function of basic functions of the relay control protocol.

With application of GIS, non-model professional users can input the key parameters of planning models at the client. The results of the model are expressed in template chart and table at the client. The modelers can calibrate the models with the real-time data to improve the precise of the models.
