Because bus arrival time are not determined by a fixed schedule but instead may be random, the problem requires more than standard shortest path techniques. In this paper, we studied the constrained reliable shortest path search problem that arises in transit route plan when waiting and in-vehicle traveling time is uncertain. The reliable path under the duration constraint is searched heuristically by avoiding the high time-variation links or transferred node. An in-depth experimental performance analysis of the proposed methods on real transit graphs shows the efficiency of the algorithm.

In this paper, we attempts to develop a bus signal priority control logic that can improve bus performance and to not impact the other traffic adversely. And use the departure ratio and performance index (PI) to balance the conflict of bus agency and traffic agency. The processing of this priority control logic is made up of detection, traffic condition estimate, leaving time estimate, arrival time estimate, priority trigger and strategy optimization and decision making. Finally, the effectiveness of this control logic is evaluated using microscopic simulator, VISSIM. Then use a statistical analysis packet, SPSS to analysis the simulated data. The results show that this signal priority control logic significance regularity of bus travel time, increase bus speed and reduces average delay to general traffic. Then the fut

The PROFILE signal control system is new decentralized-type signal control system. The system optimizes signal parameters based on the traffic arrival prediction, which is calculated from the upstream outflow information. We deployed the system at Yokohama City, Kanagawa prefecture and at Matsuyama City, Ehime prefecture in fiscal 2006, where their traffic situations are different, and where we selected considering to the plans offered by prefectural police headquarters. The Yokohama City-pilot project was adopted as large-scale area project and was carried out at 43 intersections in early 2007. The Matsuyama City-pilot project was adopted as small-scale area project and was carried out at 15 intersections in early 2007.

However, because of the limitation of number of floating cars, there is a large amount of missing data with floating car data (FCD.) In an effort to address this problem, we previously proposed a imputation method based on feature space projection. Since imputation is achieved on each feature space axis that represents the spatial correlated component of FCD, the method performs an accurate estimation based on sparse observations. We evaluated this method through a large-scale experiment in Tokyo with 2,000 taxis.

Nowadays, it is important that the driver assistance system should be adaptable to each individual driver in order to fit driver preferences as well as improve driver acceptance and to support the driver performance depending on the level of driving task demand. In this process, road situation recognition and driver models, including recognition, decisive, and operation process, to be used in advanced driver assistance system become necessary. In normal driving operation, the stored driving data in the urban area of Tokyo is utilized to identify the driving characteristics in longitudinal vehicle control regarding headway control and speed control. The concept of a hazardous index in vehicle following situation and vehicle excess speed along the commuting route are presented.

As a new type of public transportation system, BRT should meet the requirements of larger passenger capacity, higher service quality and better fleet scheduling. Traffic signal priority guarantees the bus running without stop at junctions but has minimal impact on whole traffic system. In the paper, inductive loop based isolated junction control strategy for BRT is discussed firstly. In order to implement coordinative control for bus priority, this paper presented a flexible control approach based on network. The approach has been applied successfully at the BRT system in Hefei, China.

We previously proposed vehicle matching based on vehicle sequences (two or more vehicles) instead of one-to-one matching, because many similar vehicles exist on the road. We developed a Genetic Algorithm method based on traffic characteristic, and we describe an improved method of evaluating vehicle sequences using Levenshtein Distance, also called the edit distance, corresponding to expression of vehicle behavior between upstream and downstream sides. We report on the accuracy of vehicle identification and found that travel time measurement was improved.

Pre-planning the paths is an effective way to reduce rescue response time and to keep the post-disaster traffic under control. In the paper, a heuristic path searching and checking algorithm is suggested, in order to efficiently pre-planning good candidate emergency path sets. Every alternative path calculated is checked against both the reasonable path and the alternative path set constraints. The algorithm terminates when any of the alternative path constraints is satisfied. Using the weight increment procedure, the reliability of the path set and the reliability of candidate paths within the set are increased efficiently.

In this paper, we propose a vehicle detection method based on the feature points. The feature points are detected from the image obtained form the camera sensor, and optical flow is calculated as its tracking result. Then, they are judged by comparing whether optical flow is a texture of the road origin or a vehicle origin with the map of optical flow corresponding to the speed of the vehicle calculated beforehand. Moreover, this method was applied to the image sequences that contained a variety of circumference vehicle as an experiment, and it verified it.

This prompts growing demand for “preventive safety” automobile system. However, large variations in pedestrians’ clothing/postures and environmental illuminations make it difficult to design a robust, real-time pedestrian detector, especially if the camera system is mounted on a moving car. This paper presents a novel implementation comprising: (1) High-dimensional training to make accurate classifiers, and (2) Low-dimensional classification to make fast and simple detector. The proposed system runs faster (~233% speedup) and uses less run-time memory (~60% reduction) while maintaining the same accuracy and robustness, compared to previous methods.

Determination of the required number of vehicle detectors (VDs) and their installation in strategic locations for OD estimation purpose is essentially a network location problem. In the present research, a mathematical programming framework based on a user equilibrium assumption was developed to determine the most desirable locations for the deployment of vehicle detectors. The proposed models were evaluated under different network sizes and varying OD demand levels. Numerical results indicate that the proposed mathematical programming model framework is able to find the critical link traffic count information for OD estimation purpose under limited budgetary resources. Moreover, for an accurate estimate of OD demands, the number of required vehicle detectors increases as the network size and OD demands increase. These fin

First, through the study of actual condition of traffic near school zones, we have proved not only that the through traffic is very heavy, but also that many vehicles are exceeding the regulatory speed at these areas. Next, based on the questionnaire by elementary school students, we have observed the actual actions made by the students at Hiyari-Hatto locations in school zones and pointed out that there is a big gap between the student’s awareness toward danger and the actual actions they make. Consequently, to solve this problem, we have developed an “Intelligent Speed Advisory(ISA) System”which stimulates drivers to drive safely by warning them via navigation system. And we have launched a field operation test for this system.

This paper presents a model of the innovation service and illustrates how an automotive alliance is formed (Automotive Integrated Services & Intelligent Card Alliance, AISICA) in order to organize mutual resources and to offer their consumers a novel and value-added service timely. The Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) method is adopted to analyze the critical successful factors of the proposed service model. This research also presents three possible strategies - technology-oriented, service-oriented and collaboration-oriented strategies for the business model to reduce the risks associated. While the proposed model and AISICA is summarized from the experiences from our pilot experiment, it should be used as the basis to attract more organizations to apply automotive integrated services in the future.

This data is useful to road administrators as well, and can also be utilized to advance transportation management and other road administration measures. In this study, we analyzed road traffic utilizing dynamic transportation data collected in the Nagoya area from taxis, buses, and trucks. As a result, it was found that dynamic transportation data is useful for obtaining the indices that can be employed to consider: (1) the priority of administrative measures in view of the reliability of travel-times; (2) the management of roadwork; and (3) the measures to improve the efficiency and promote the use of public transportation. It is therefore highly relevant to advancing transportation management.

By conventional methods, we have to calibrate by a complex technique to adjust each individual for eye-gaze detection. So, there are some problems to apply these methods to driver monitoring cameras. By our proposed method, we don’t need to calibrate any parameters to adjust each individual for eye-gaze detection.

The real-time model is implemented based on rolling horizon approach. The rolling horizon is advanced for each stage, thus real-time data can be incorporated within the framework. In order to predict normative as well as predictive information, a simulation-based DTA model is employed within each stage. Four different physical vehicle types are explicitly considered and modeled, including car, bus, motorcycle, and truck. In addition to physical vehicles, four different behavioral rules, pre-specified-path driver, user-equilibrium driver, system-optimization driver, and real-time information driver, are considered in the solution procedure.

This paper indicates that the influence of UTCS and UTGS upon the whole traffic system is no-equilibrium when traffic system approaches the critical point. And UTGS is the dominate factor (also called Oder Parameter) which determines the evolution of the whole traffic system. Based on the slaving principle of synergetic theory, a traffic flow assignment model is proposed. Its feasibility is validated through simulations. The proposed model can be used to analyze and stimulate further studies of the collaboration between UTCS and UTGS.

This paper analyses the significance of coordination of the region boundary, brings out the condition for coordination and proposes two traffic control situation discrimination models of region boundary. After that, a dynamic hierarchical coordination control model of region boundary is proposed. Finally, a simulation test is carried out to validate the dynamic hierarchical coordination model with the help of Vissim 4.2. Through evaluation index comparison of the traditional traffic control and the coordination model, it is concluded that the dynamic hierarchical coordination model is more efficient and produces better traffic control benefit than the traditional traffic control system.

Detection of turning -on of the brake light and the on-off the pattern of the brake light with the computer vision will have a function of communications, and can tell a driver of the following vehicle on the behavior of the preceding vehicle. When the brake light includes infrared LED’s, the invisible light to the driver can transmit detailed information on the preceding vehicle. The feature of the system is the compatibility between the present system and the system proposed here. Experiments with a breadboard system and some results on the detection of the brake light and the communications will be introduced.
